Local freight, posted and hauled nearby.

LocalHaul is a marketplace for local loads: 53' trailers for CDL-A drivers, box trucks for CDL-A, CDL-B and non-CDL drivers.

  • Drivers: Find local loads for your license and truck. See the price and payment terms before you book.
  • Shippers, brokers and carriers: Post a load and price it your way. On offers, you choose the driver.

How it works

Three steps, from posting to paperwork.

1

Post or find a load

The posting company sets the stops, the truck or trailer, the price and the payment terms. Drivers see the loads their license class and equipment can run.

2

Book or make an offer

On a fixed price, the first eligible driver to accept books it. On offers, the posting company accepts, counters or declines, and chooses the driver.

3

Run it and close it out

The driver marks each arrival and photographs the signed bill of lading (BOL). The posting company pays the driver directly, on the payment terms shown on the load.

Paperwork, from the driver's phone

Every delivered load ends with a complete record, without chasing paper.

Signed BOL photos

At delivery the driver photographs the signed BOL, up to four pages.

Receiver's signature

No paper at the dock? The receiver signs on the driver's screen.

Load packet PDF

After every delivery: stop times, arrival records, proof photos and amounts owed, in one PDF for the posting company and the driver.

Rate confirmations Coming soon

A rate confirmation for each booked load, signed in the app by both sides.

The ground rules

How LocalHaul works today.

  • LocalHaul never assigns or recommends a driver On offers, you choose the driver. On a fixed price, the first eligible driver to accept books it.
  • Every load has a carrier of record The posting carrier, or on shipper and broker loads the driver's own carrier. It's recorded at booking and shown on the load.
  • Driver documents are checked by LocalHaul staff License, DOT medical card, auto liability and cargo insurance, before a driver can make an offer or book.
  • Location recorded only at arrival LocalHaul saves the phone's location only when the driver taps "I arrived" at a stop, and never follows the trip. Load distances use it without saving it.
  • Posting companies pay drivers directly LocalHaul handles no money. It records what each load owes, and both sides confirm when it's paid.

Questions

For drivers

What do I need to sign up?

A phone number, your driver class (CDL-A, CDL-B or non-CDL), and your license, DOT medical card, auto liability and cargo insurance certificates. Without a CDL, add your box truck's registration. LocalHaul staff review each document before you can make offers or book.

Which loads will I see?

Only CDL-A drivers run trailer loads (53' dry van or reefer); they see box truck loads too. CDL-B and non-CDL drivers run box trucks: 16', 20', 22/24' or 26', dry or reefer. With a CDL-B, any weight rating; without a CDL, you can't book a truck rated 26,001 lb or more. Loads where you bring the trailer show only when you have that trailer type.

Why do some loads need a carrier?

The haul has to run under a company with operating authority. On a load posted by a carrier, that's the posting carrier. Shippers and brokers don't haul the load themselves, so their loads run under the driver's carrier: your own authority, or a carrier you're leased on to or drive for, verified by LocalHaul staff and active with FMCSA.

How do I get paid?

The posting company pays you directly. You see its payment terms (Quick pay, Net 15 or Net 30) before you book. When it marks the load paid, you confirm the money arrived, or dispute it.

What about waiting at the dock?

Each stop has 2 free hours, counted from your arrival or the appointment time, whichever is later. After that, detention is billed in 15-minute steps at the hourly rate in the Marketplace Rules, up to 6 billable hours per stop. It's owed to you by the posting company. Marketplace Rules

Is there an app to download?

No app store needed. Open driver.localhaul.app on your phone and add it to your home screen.

What does "local" mean?

You choose how far away a pickup can be: from 5 to 100 miles in a straight line from where you are, or from your home base for later days. It's 100 miles until you change it. LocalHaul doesn't limit how far a load travels after pickup.

Can I cancel a load I booked?

Yes, until you start the trip, with no fee. The load goes back on the market, and drivers who made offers on it are told.

Releasing under 24 hours before pickup counts as a late release, unless it's within 15 minutes of booking and pickup is more than 2 hours away. Three late releases or no-shows in 30 days send your account to LocalHaul staff for review. Once the trip has started, contact support.

Does LocalHaul charge fees?

LocalHaul doesn't charge drivers or posting companies anything today. Detention and cancellation fees under the Marketplace Rules are owed between the posting company and the driver.

For shippers, brokers and carriers

Who can post loads?

Shippers, brokers and carriers. Brokers and carriers post after LocalHaul staff check their numbers with FMCSA: USDOT and MC for brokers, USDOT (and MC, if they have one) for carriers. Shippers are reviewed from business documents, and only shippers may post while their review is pending, with up to 3 active loads.

How do I price a load?

Three ways: a fixed price, a fixed price that also takes offers, or open to offers with an optional suggested price. You can counter any offer.

How is the driver chosen?

LocalHaul never assigns or recommends a driver. On offers, you choose the driver. On a fixed price, the first eligible driver to accept books it. LocalHaul shows you the offers and facts about each driver, in a neutral order.

Who is the carrier of record?

Posted as Carrier, it's your company. Posted as Shipper or Broker, it's the driver's carrier, and only drivers with a verified carrier can book the load. It's shown on the load once booked.

How do I pay the driver?

Directly, by the method you and the driver use, on the terms you chose when posting. The app shows what each load owes, and you mark it paid. LocalHaul doesn't collect bank or card details.

Can I cancel before a driver books?

Yes, at no charge. A load with no driver booked can be cancelled any time.

What if I cancel after a driver books?

The Marketplace Rules set the fee by timing, and it's owed to the driver. It stays free within 15 minutes of booking (before the trip starts), more than 24 hours before pickup, or when the driver is over 30 minutes late to the first pickup. Marketplace Rules
